April is Alcohol Awareness Month

Do you know the guidelines for moderate drinking? The CDC recommends no more than 1 drink per day for women and 2 drinks per day for men.

How much alcohol is in “a drink”? In the United States, one "standard" drink (or one alcoholic drink equivalent) contains roughly 14 grams of pure alcohol, which is found in:

  • 12 ounces of regular beer, which is usually about 5% alcohol

  • 5 ounces of wine, which is typically about 12% alcohol

  • 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits, which is about 40% alcohol

For example, let’s say you are at a summer barbecue and you enjoy 3 red cups of good craft beer (7% alcohol), you’ve just had ~7 servings of alcohol in your 3 red cups!

The Prevention Coalition has FREE moderate drinking magnets for anyone who wants a gentle reminder of moderate drinking guidelines. You can pick them up on the door at Public Health at 619 E Hennick St., Pinedale or Altitude Drug in Big Piney or Pinedale.
